I’m looking at an industrial distribution business that has a duopoly for its niche industry with its competitor in its local region. I know who the competitor is and can find some basic information on its website. How do you suggest I learn more specifics about the competitor? I’m especially interested in understanding the market share it has and its margins.

Interview the vendors and clients they have in common. You will get a good feel for market share.

If it's a publicly traded company can look into its financial reports and investor presentations.
