Following a slight downtick in 2018, the 2019 data shows that there were a record number of search fund formations in European countries this past year. The 2010s decade has seen immense growth for search fund formations in Europe. There was only one search fund formed in Europe in 2010, compared to the twenty-nine formed last year. We are seeing increasing investor interest and accelerators/incubators being developed. As more investors become familiar with the search fund concept, it will take off like it has in the USA. Aside from a potential modest dip in 2020 formations due to the COVID-19 pandemic, there is every reason to believe that these numbers will continue to climb in the coming years, and search funds will become more and more prevalent in European countries.
