Self-Funded Search Investor Cash Flow Expectations

Curious what other self-funded searchers have found are investors' expectations re dividends prior to a liquidation event. Have you found it to be much the same as traditional search (the primer suggests either non-redeemable preferred equity with a coupon or a 50/50 split between 0% non-redeemable and 15-17% redeemable)? Or something different?
