Hi all, I was on a path to dive into the search journey before I learnt that I’m about to become a dad. Those news put search fund plans on hold until the due date or later. Has anyone done search as a new parent? Would love to learn about your experiences.

This is a few months old but I launched a full-time self-funded search with 3 kids (6, 4, 1). It made me a more motivated and disciplined searcher. We ended up relocating after my son finished Kindergarten for the acquisition. Search is a sacrifice for everyone, especially the collateral damage (spouse + kids). I am lucky/grateful to have a spouse who is 100% committed to supporting me, otherwise we would not have even entertained the search.

I am a parent of 10/12 yo, so can't directly address this. I was in a corporate job when my kids were small.

It is hard to predict pre-kids the impact they will have on your schedule and priorities (for the better - it's not all bad!) During the small children phase, I learned important lessons in how to prioritize and how to be ok with less than perfect. We made several "slow down" decisions that saved our sanity, and led to a much happier life overall - no regrets.

I am in a much better position now to pursue search or other intense roles - not just free time, but also stress management, confidence, leadership skills, and personal values.

YMMV
