I was researching possibilities for a self-funded acquisition, but an SBA-partner bank I spoke with recently mentioned that non-US citizens (no green card) do not qualify for an SBA loan. Online research says it's possible to own a minority stake but depends on the lender.

Curious what the group here knows. More importantly, what other realistic alternatives are out there?

To qualify for an SBA loan the company you are buying must be 51% or greater owner by a US Citizen or at least a green card holder. Up to 49% of the company can be owned by foreigners. Not all lenders will do a deal where a foreigner is an owner, but it is an option. Happy to discuss in more detail if you need assistance. You can ping me here or directly at redacted Good luck.
