Hi All,

I'm looking for a skills/personality assessment tool I can use for hiring to see how well potential candidates match up to the current A, B, and C players on my staff. The number of tools out there are overwhelming so I wanted to see if anyone here has any good recommendations.

There are numerous free online personality assessments you can tap (Myers Briggs, Enneagram, Gallup, to name a few),. To the extent that you are hiring for a leadership position, these online assessments won't provide you with clear insight on two important considerations. First, what happens to performance when a leader becomes overly stressed? Second, how will their specific personality gel with the rest of the team's personality? Hogan Assessment starts to get at those considerations (but they are not a free online service). And needless to say, there are many consulting firms that do one on one assessments (like GH Smart). to provide you a more holistic view.

Criteria Corp has a great suite of assessments. I used the cognitive and personality assessments specifically, but there are others tailored for specific roles (e.g., sales) too. For emotional intelligence, I believe the MSCEIT is considered the best, although it's not offered by Criteria Corp. I would be careful about using tests like the MBTI and enneagram, since their psychometric validity has been questioned by academics for years.
