Hi everyone!

My name is Mihir Bhagat and I'm doing a solo self-funded search fund. I currently live in San Francisco. I've worked as a consultant at BCG and TV producer at ESPN. I got my MBA at Yale.

One of my 1st tasks is naming my search fund. So far, my understanding is

1. There are more important tasks so don't overthink it
2. Jim Stein Sharpe's advice is to avoid Capital, Partners, etc.
3. If possible, tell a story

Any issues with just using my name?

Mihir Bhagat LLC, mihirbhagat.com, redacted

If so, please let me know!

We went round & round on company names ... we took the advice of our AMAZING Marketing Advisor (who has way more experience with branding than me): (1) keep it simple, (2) make sure folks can (easily) spell it, (3) connect it to your brand story, and (4) be sure the domain name is available and has a .com (and be sure you can register it with the State, ie., as an LLC, LLP, etc###-###-#### now, ours includes Cap (but we weren't told to avoid Capital) ... it was a fun process (and I'm SO glad we took the time we did to pick our name and decide on the aspects of branding that we did!)! Congrats on launching & good luck figuring out your search fund's name -- if you want to chat further, always happy to!

Hi ^redacted‌, the reason most of our clients don’t use their own name is that if not done well (complying with all of the requirements to avoid piercing the corporate veil), it can more easily open you up to personal liability due to potential confusion of the counterparty. With that said, I have an entity (my educational platform with digital courses) that’s under my name. However, if you do go this route it’s imperative to avoid piercing the corporate veil. I have a free guide on how to avoid this on my website and am happy to chat further.
