While searching I’ve decided to dedicate a percentage of my time to continued education. I’m aware that understanding financial accounting fundamentals is extremely important, especially for folks (like me) with a sales/marketing/mgmt background.

What courses do searchers recommend in this space? I’ve heard Coursera has a number of free options, but curious if there are others out there...

Understanding Financial Accounting is an excellent idea, Seth. I agree with Jordan CFI is a good place to start.

My only advice on pure Financial Accounting is that it can be winding and would not be bogged down with some of the nuances. Off-the-shelf accounting packages such as QuickBooks already incorporate half of what we spend years learning about Fin Acc.

Much value is in Financial Analysis (reading through the trial balance/general ledger/financial statements and understanding what it means for day-to-day operations). Financial Analysis helps during acquisition and post.

I am in the process of developing a course on Financial Analysis for Acquiring a Small Business. Will be posting details here

On Coursera, Penn offers a four-course series that provides an introduction to corporate finance and accounting. It's taught by a Wharton professor. See https://www.coursera.org/specializations/finance-accounting
