Does anyone have experience talking to mom and pop electrical owners?

I am acquiring mom-and-pop electrical contracting companies in the North East. I would like some input on approaching them the right way, so they are not insulted. What's the best way to approach them? What background do I need to do so I can create a better trust with them?
