we'd like to get the community's feedback on the following idea. We are considering raising a fund, but we don't have any previous experience in hiring interns because of the corona situation it would be possible to be remotely, what's the process to hire them, and where we could find them?

Considering hiring is a key part once you get to the operating stage, I'll start at the beginning in case you don't have experience hiring in general.
1. Start by detailing out what work you want to have someone complete.
2. Define what you are looking for in a candidate in order to a) complete the work required and b) fit into and/or enhance your team from a general culture perspective.
3. Post a job description on sites like SearchFunder, local or other university sites, etc.
4. Review resumes to see if they meet basic criteria to have an intro call.
5. For those that are interesting to you, schedule a call. (Could be a phone call or a video call. Phone call would help you get a feel for how they would be in calling someone and interacting with them, if that's part of the work you need. Video chat is good to build a relationship from the start. I do a video chat for these interns as I just do a one-step process) During these calls, you are evaluating how they would function in the role and on your team. I also get a feel for how many hours a week and for how long they intend to work.
6. Next would be either to move them forward or respectfully let them know they won't be moving forward.
7. Normally, I would then bring people into the office to meet in person along with meeting people on the team. However, for these sort of interns, it might be overkill. I skip this step for this world.
8. For anyone you want to move forward with, I then ask for 2-3 references to contact.
9. Perform reference checks
10. Send offer letter and NDA....and a congratulations!

As a current intern myself, I thought I'd chime in. I would recommend posting any internship openings on a college career website such as Handshake. I know plenty of students who are working incredibly hard to find an internship right now and they check these job/internship boards religiously. You should have no trouble getting responses. Having to conduct an internship remotely is certainly not ideal, but I do believe it has its upsides. You are no longer somewhat geographically bounded to the universities in your general area. Instead, because the internship will no longer require any in-person component, you can extend the scope of your hiring process to top schools around the nation!
