Developing a step by step guide for Due Diligence

Is anyone aware of any good resources that will help newer searchers build confidence on the steps of the due diligence process?

 I'm trying to get my arms around everything involved and start documenting each step. It would be helpful to have a step.-by-step guide to understand what needs to happen at each milestone for financial & legal due diligence to ensure you buy a quality business with minimal surprises and do everything at the appropriate moment to not waste time & capital. 

Any recommendations?
