Buy-Side Reps for Off Market Deals?

Has anyone used buy-side representatives to source off-market deals before? The brokers offer this service for a monthly retainer, which doesn't seem that big, and I assume that they have all of the deal flow and outreach systems set up and running already. I would just worry that they would then try to get the deal bid up.
