Greetings. I've thought about committing to this for a long time but have remained a casual observer. Does anyone have any general advice on getting oneself ready to take a leap. I'm having trouble imagining life way out on a limb when I am comfortable now - I'm worried about taking risks when my family is getting by. I'm also worried about complacency, so where might I find the nudge?

I agree with ^redacted‌. It sounds cliche, but you really do need to start with your WHY. There's significant risk and opportunity cost when buying a business and if you aren't 100% committed to it, then you shouldn't do it (especially if you are comfortable where you are now). I thought about ETA for almost a year before I finally quit my job to pursue searching full time. For me it was the best decision I ever made (even though I haven't closed on my first deal yet), but searching is such a personal decision.

I wrote a post on searchfunder a couple months ago about my lessons learned from seaching full time for a year. It might be helpful for you.

If you have not read the classic, Rich Dad Poor Dad, then start there which should light the fire to stop working a regular job. Next I would read Buy Then Build. Those two are a great push to take action.

You could also just jump right in and start looking for a deal, but the framework to do so is laid out quite well in redacted‌'s book!
