I have been learning as I go. The biggest take-away is to stay firm on your transition terms. The seller told me shortly after that he didn't think I needed to spend everyday with him for 30 days the first month (like it was written in the contract), the next 30 days I wanted to shadow him every other day for 30 days, and then finally the last month he would shadow me and make sure I was able to handle the day to day leadership. None of that happened and I found myself having to build everything out on my own.
The J curve hit as we went into down season and now it has picked up but I will need to improve the processes or this will continue to be a tough business.
Curious to how many who have had service type businesses, they were able to build the culture that they wanted. I have many old school employees who don't like change and finally I needed to make changes and a few of the oldest tenure employees left. Hopefully for the better but building out a strong culture is at the top of my list so any recommendations would be helpful. Using LinkedIn sales navigator to find talent in the bigger markets was one idea. Indeed and the other hiring sites I feel like won't move the needle on talent but I could be convinced otherwise if others have had success.
