There was a brokered deal I liked and it is back on the market. The broker said the deal fell through for personal reasons on the buyer. Is it worth trying to track down the buyer?

Maybe I’m the outlier here but if I were a buyer (I’m not) I would want to have access to all information available about the business.

Once you reach the LOI stage you can ask the seller directly about who the other buyer was and why they fell through. If the seller is forthcoming with the information it should give you confidence, and if they aren’t then it that’s also valuable information.

Brokers are not in the business of name dropping or sharing confidential information. Respect their fiduciary (legal or n0nlegal) responsibility.
If you reengage, broker will make sure, early in the game, that the deal does not fall apart with you for the same reasons as the first buyer. After all, the brokers are 100% commission based. They have the motivation to close the deal.
