Who has done software/digital product carveouts?

We see a lot of proprietary software carveouts, and I want to see who has either done them or has financed these type of companies before.

I'm not interested in people not experienced with the nuances of these type of scenarios. (if you know you know)

And, if you invest in these type of transactions, what do you typically look for? (Size, teams, profitability, etc)

Similar to ^redacted‌ experience (and thank you for you excellent post, Douglas) I’ve targeted businesses in the trades where licenses have been held by technicians across the company, both within the field and supervisory staff. If these don’t exist within the business that you’re targeting, they can be recruited, for a price, but far less than Douglas’ reference of community college followed by apprenticeship as an owner. Careful target company acquisition criteria development can avoid wasted due diligence efforts by focusing on this topic.
