I'm currently searching for an "essential" discrete manufacturing business which has a component of distribution or direct-to-user sale that can be expanded? Any input on which industry or model would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks, Luke.
Metal roofing is one of my niches...on the residential side, something like 75% of installs are reroofs, so can be decoupled from new home starts, and many insurance providers will require roof replacement at some interval, regardless of economic cycle. Pretty fragmented market on the manufacturing side, as most jobs are built/cut to order, so build to stock is challenging and small (fast) local folks have a built in advantage over larger but not local operations.
Just one niche that I happen to know about... obviously there are many more...

I purchased a stage curtain company. So far so good. No matter what happens in the future, theaters will be around and there will be stage curtains. Only downside is that the industry itself doesn't really grow much.
