What have been the key lessons learned from talking with fellow searchers?

As I have begun to form my search fund, one of the first pieces of advice that I received was to talk with 20 Searchers. Including Searchers who failed to identify an acquisition, as well as funds that acquired a company that did not obtain the growth metrics desired.

If you're still interested after 20 conversations, I would keep talking to new folks in the space. It will pay dividends for you while you're searching and then operating. While I've been searching, it's been incredibly helpful to reach out to now operators in an industry when I'm looking at an opportunity in that industry or a similar industry. These operators are often people I reached out to when I was just trying to learn about search and their path to operating.
