I'm based in NY so obviously some home services like landscaping and pool maintenance will be out due to seasonality. But strategy is to execute on an initial platform in NY and expand geographically later on.

In the city... union shops of all sorts are not as appetizing to other buyers. I have heard first hand that construction (or adjacent) in NYC is super tough to operate in if you're not from that world. Does help you avoid the seasonality and stay close to the city.

I would have said tree care, roofing. Plenty of great services with optionality to expand horizontally. Seasonality can also be your friend and I think great operators can use it to their advantage.

Hot take is that restaurants are sub-scale businesses with multiples are where you need them if you can handle the logistics of a multi-location operation.

^redacted‌ - thanks. i should have been clearer. not looking for a specific NYC rollup play. looking to think about acquiring a business that has rollup potential but need to start with NY. as a result for example, pool maintenance businesses will be out since considered seasonal and not a good candidate for platform purchase. looking to think through the best rollup strategy for the northeast generally speaking.
