US vs. Europe: where are we more succesful? And how does AI play into it?
Hi all, I started out as a searcher and have since acquired many businesses (or stakes in them) across Europe through my holding company, redacted. And have heavily build out a team increasing value through process-optimisation and AI. What I learned: finding good deals in Europe and make them more profitable seems by far far easier than in the US. The number of family businesses with no succession plan is enormous. Every time I researched in the US, and thought to "get my toes wet", I saw much higher multiples and far more competition per deal. I never closed a deal in the US yet. Something shifted six months ago though: capabilities in agentic AI. Europe, with its rules, regulations and labor laws, will inevitably fall behind. If you can't move people into more productive roles "because the contract says so," you can't capture the value agentic automation creates. I'm now seriously considering pulling back from Europe and focusing on the US. Two things I'd love to understand from this community: How hard is it, in practice, to move people into higher-value roles (with training) or replace them with AI in the US? Side note: across my career we implemented a lot of AI, automation and robotics and never had to cut staff. Productivity went up, which usually meant sales went up. We'd like to find a few partners to test our playbook with. It's something we normally only use on our own companies, so it's a free resource for you. What we get in return: a real understanding of the American ecosystem, so we can decide whether it's worth proceeding here. Happy to connect.
