Hope all is well. I'm four credits away from graduating as a fully employed MBA student at UCLA Anderson, where Professor Kent Weaver's ETA curriculum introduced me to the exciting world of search funds. I'm now preparing for a full-time traditional search. I have hired and trained 7 MBA intern partners who have demonstrated their ETA enthusiasm through 3 rounds of interviews with me. I'm currently training them in my 10-week internship program to build our proprietary deal-sourcing pipeline, working on Agame Search Fund's PPM draft, and building my investor network for a fundraise in the next 3 months.
In my deal sourcing practice, I sourced a proprietary opportunity in Greater Los Angeles: a retiring Chinese couple in their 70s are looking to sell their 40-year-old food supply chain business—a niche market leader with strong brand equity. They have built the company with remarkable dedication, working six days a week, and have achieved $1.12M in EBITDA with a gross margin of 25%. Revenue has shown consistent growth over the past five years, all driven by word-of-mouth—with no investment in marketing to date. This business is its focus on serving only restaurants with more than five years of operating history, ensuring a high-quality, recurring revenue base. The company operates in a traditional, "old-school" manner with a stable team of nine employees. Expansion has been limited by cold storage warehouse constraints, so they have remained hyper-local.
A unique aspect of this opportunity is the significant consolidation potential in the Greater Los Angeles area. The seller mentioned that he personally knows at least 10 other motivated sellers in the same industry of similar age in the region who also want to retire. This presents an opportunity to secure a low entry multiple, add marketing and sales functions, professionalize operations, and pursue a roll-up and vertical integration M&A strategy post-acquisition.
