Hello Family, Search fund journey is amazing. Being Pro-active is the key to success for this model.

One of the problem that we are facing is with fund raising, We did test the appetite for search fund model via re-positioning with respect to India economics and did a test case with Indian investors, the understanding, risk taking and patient capital is certainly missing with Indian investors. Hence we thought to raise the capital where there is acceptance which is certainly US (we are still pushing for the model to be accepted amongst local investors).

So the broader question would be that is fundraising via intermediaries in US a much better strategy to raise fund than the traditional cold calling? If fundraising via intermediaries is viable, could anybody guide me towards search fund fundraising intermediaries? If not, any case study to guide us would be great.

Thank you, Ajay C. Kulkarni

Hi Ajay, searchfunds are not raised through intermediaries in the U.S. They way it is currently structured, the relationship between the investor and the searcher is one of mentor and student and much more than a financial transaction. Most searchers who are successful in raising from US investors do 1 of 2 things: attend a top 10 MBA program or become a CEO for hire at a private equity firm and gain relevant operating experience that way.
