The SMB World Feels Fragmented! So We Built This

Over the last several months, I’ve spent a lot of time thinking about how fragmented the SMB acquisition world really is.
There is incredible knowledge in this ecosystem, but most of it lives in scattered conversations between brokers, operators, lenders, searchers, PE groups, podcasts, and communities like Searchfunder. A lot of the best insights are still shared as tribal knowledge between people actively involved in deals.
Honestly, Searchfunder played a major role in pushing me toward building this.
The conversations, feedback, and relationships I’ve built here helped me and my team start asking a bigger question:
“What if there was a weekly publication that tried to synthesize all of this information into something useful for SMB operators, acquirers, and investors?”
That led to us launching:
[SMB Deal Weekly](https://smbdealweekly.com)
This definitely was not built alone. A lot of credit goes to the contacts and relationships I’ve built through the Searchfunder community, along with two close friends and partners helping shape the vision: John and Swetha who brought a lot of great ideas and perspective while building the site.
One thing we were intentional about from the beginning was building this in a sustainable way. We spent months figuring out how to keep the platform lean and practical instead of overbuilding something expensive from day one. The goal was to focus on consistency, useful content, and long-term value for the SMB community rather than chasing a flashy launch.
The mission is simple:
Create weekly updates focused on:
* SMB deal activity
* operator insights
* SBA and financing environment
* manufacturing & industrial trends
* acquisition lessons learned
* lower middle market observations
* what buyers and operators are actually seeing in the market
Coming from an operator background myself, I wanted this to feel less like “finance theory” and more like practical market intelligence for people actively involved in SMBs.
This is our very first issue, so I’d genuinely appreciate feedback from the Searchfunder community:
* Any bugs you find
* topics you’d want covered
* things you think are missing in the SMB ecosystem
* ideas that would make this more useful for searchers, operators, and investors
Really appreciate everyone here who unknowingly helped inspire this project. Hoping to continue growing this into something valuable for the SMB community over time.
