The Most Meaningful Lesson that I’ve Learned Over the Past 12 Months
Today’s episode is a slight departure from our usual format, but I think it’s one that you’re really going to enjoy. Regular listeners of the show will know that I often conclude with the same question, being: “What is the most meaningful lesson that you have learned over the past 12 months, across any domain of your life?”. I’ve received so many interesting answers to this question that I decided to compile them into a single episode, that features answers from 15 of our previous guests. One of my favorite quotes is “we need to be reminded more than we need to be taught”, which suggests that many of our most meaningful lessons are ones that we already know at some level, but often need to experience in some way to once again appreciate their importance. What I loved most about today’s episode is not just how simple and fundamental the answers were, but also how they spanned so many different domains of life: Business, personal, family, and spiritual, just to name a few. The docket includes: — Jim Vesterman: The accumulation of mundane acts — Zac Carman: The small number of activities that drive most of the gains — John Ratliff: Finding the flow instead of fighting the current — Ryan Farkas: Rethinking the shape of a career as the family grows — Brent Beshore: Why “I’m good” forecloses real relationships — Raam Jani: Appreciating people — and appreciating being appreciated — Les Trachtman: The cost of moving faster than the people around you — Geoff Woods: Commitment comes before capability and confidence — Stacey Carroll: Rest is productive — Dr. Jim Schleckser: Managing emotional energy — Larry Weinzimmer: Avoiding the failure rather than bouncing back from it — Casey Brown: Being intentional about the time you have left with your kids — Rob Markey: You're better as yourself than as an imitation of someone else — Craig Zingerline: Making peace with things not going the way you planned — CAMERON HEROLD: Holding a vision strongly enough to make it real Episode Link: redacted
