Hey Guys!

Looking for some guidance on how best to reach out to targets.
I'm currently using emails which have an abysmal open and response rate just wondering what would your recommend as the best way to reach targets.
Thanks in advance for your help.

Everyone (you're trying to reach) seems to have a different effective communications channel. I typically start with an email, follow up with a call (I don't leave voicemail), then follow up again with email/call. I leave at least several days between contacts. I've also had luck on LinkedIn if I see that someone is very active there. Emails only work when I have a good business relevant hook that lets them know this is specific to them, not a spray-and-pray email. For cold calls I will spend a lot of time making sure I'm ready with my 2 sentence intro (explain relevance of the call) and have enough company context to discuss for another few minutes. My outreach is very narrowly targeted on corporate execs (M&A decision makers) so I can afford to spend a lot of time on the ones I really want to reach. If you're looking for broad (higher volume) coverage you probably need a different method.

I find that reaching out to targets is dependent on the individual owner. Depending on the industry you are going for, you might be able to generalize which forms of communication work best. By way of example, we tried email for reaching out to metal fabrication manufacturers and we had poor results. When we reached with a direct mail campaign the results were much more impressive. Similarly, I have a friend that was looking to acquire a marketing firm and writing letters had a poor response rate but reaching out on LinkedIn resulted in 2-3 calls per week with firm owners.

It's a lot like marketing. You have to know your audience, go to where they are, and communicate your value to them.
