My husband and I are starting a search fun, I am in financial DD and he is an MBB consultant. We have raised about $500k in capital and would like to buy a business between $1-2M EBITDA. We’ve looked at bizbuysell and loopnet, where else should we look for available companies for sale? We’ve been told this is a long process has anyone had success in identifying and acquiring a company in under a year? I feel like now with many boomers retiring there will be a surge in deal flow. Let me know thoughts!

Congratulations on starting your search. I have had clients start their search and land their first company within a few weeks and I have had others have it take years to find the right fit. For those who have found deals quickly I think the key has been having a relatively broad search either from a geographic perspective or from an industry perspective (or possibly both). The more confined your search is, the harder a time you will have. I have also found that those that do a proprietary search as well as look at brokered deals often are quicker to find a deal.

If you need any assistance from a financing perspective, we would love to assist you. You can reach me here or directly at redacted

Get grounded correctly. Don't be too influenced by anecdotal information. Check out my books on Amazon. No academic boilerplate or filler. In your face reality.
