Staggered funding for the search phase

What would you answer to a possible investor who wants to staggered funding for the search phase? That is, instead of investing $50k since the beginning, invest $2.1k monthly depending on the advances on the search. I believe is very risky for the searcher, but it may be helpful to attract investors.

If you are concerned about a broker asking for proof of funds you could have a key investor provide proofs of funds

It sounds reasonable to me. I would want to have a more in-depth conversation to establish milestones or, as Ali says, clearly define progress so that both parties are satisfied with the results
