Should the government regulate prices in times of crisis or markets?

Really broad question but as a believer in markets I generally think they less government intervention the better for everyone, even though it might be bad for certain people for the government to not intervene.

I learned that price regulation leads to shortages and surpluses. The free market seems to allocate goods and services most efficiently.
