Self Funded Searchers - Analytics and Modelling for your deals

I have a question for the self funded searchers.

When you look at deals, do you hire someone to do the modelling/analytics on deals for you or do you do this yourself?

Asking because, we at Dealflow Partner (dealflowpartner.com) source off-market deals for searchers and recently hired someone in-house to do the analytics/modelling part on deals.

Wondering if this is something, you would find it useful? Also incase anyone is curious, we aren't charging upfront for this service and instead we get a fee paid once the deal closes. Haven't really changed the fee structure with the inclusion of the analytics/modelling service, but we do want to maximize the amount of value the searchers who work with us gain.

Any feedback is highly appreciated!

As someone exploring this path, think most any searcher should be running the model themselves. They are the ones who need to think through the assumptions, the cases, the covenants (if any), and the ultimate viability of any given model.

I'm sure you could find someone willing to use this service, but I frankly feel this would be a great disservice to them. They have to live with what they have investors underwrite to and with the implications on a closed deal - you do not.

One exception in my mind is someone with significant experience who can properly direct your team in the work. But at that point, they could likely do it themselves... so I struggle to see the value prop here too.

Good luck!

Thanks Jake, and yeah valid points. The use case I can think of is when the searcher knows how to run models, but mostly they also need extra help due to volume of deals they're looking at. (Had such an instance where the searcher had a dedicated team mate to analyze deals, only difference being it was a traditional search fund)
