Seeking Advice: Best practices for managing 5+ interns for brokered deal sourcing — what's worked for you?
As deal flow has picked up significantly this summer I'm finding myself stretched thin on the sourcing side and considering bringing on a small team of interns to help maintain sourcing levels and increase throughput across multiple target regions. Before I pull the trigger I'd love to hear from those who have been down this road. A few specific things I'm trying to think through: 1. NDA logistics — when interns are requesting CIMs on your behalf, should they be signing NDAs under your search fund's name or under their own information? Want to make sure brokers aren't confused about who the actual buyer is down the line. 2. Communication and coordination — is Slack the go-to for keeping a team this size aligned, or is there a better setup people have found for managing workflow across multiple people working in parallel? 3. Workflow structure — how are people dividing and tracking responsibilities to avoid duplication, dropped follow ups, or interns stepping on each other's toes across the same broker relationships? 4. Setting them up for success — any general advice on onboarding, expectation setting, or structuring the experience so they're actually adding value quickly rather than creating more work? 5. Anything else — I'm sure there are critical areas I haven't even thought to ask about yet. If you've managed interns in a search context and there's something you wish someone had told you upfront, I'm all ears. I want to approach this in a way that's well structured from day one. Their success directly impacts mine so I'd rather get this right upfront and ensure everyone can find value in the experience. Appreciate any and all insight from those who've been here. Thank you in advance.
