Searching online marketplaces vs a proprietary search?

Seem like there's a lot of quality businesses listed in my area and am curious why I hear that folks are strongly against a listing on say BizBuySell or similar marketplace. Is a proprietary search really worth it?

In my eyes it could be quicker to a deal than cold calling/emailing 100's of businesses. But I'm still learning what to spot and look for so this may be naïve.

Thanks!

Believe most searchers opt for a mixed approach making use of market place, proprietary, brokers etc. It just depends on what % of resources to allocate to each. The data does suggest proprietary is better. Marketplaces will have more competition for a deal, which is bad for a searcher due to capital constraints.

Makes sense. Is the data pointing to better deal terms with proprietary?
