One of the most common questions I get about raising a search fund is: "How much money did you raise and why?"

I recently wrote about the amount I raised ($670,000), how that broke down for different uses of funds, and my reflections on the amounts I raised now that I'm four months into searching.

Quick summary of spend by category:
- Salary & Payroll: $230,000 / year
- Travel: $35,000 / year
- Broken Deal Costs: $30,000 / year
- Infrastructure (interns, software, research): $30,000 / year
- Startup Costs / Contingency: $10,000 / year

I hope this helps - let me know if you have questions.

Thanks for sharing this Chris. I’m currently fundraising for a broadly similar budget, albeit with a lower salary.
