I invest in search and seed deals, and I’m posting about one of my own. We own a profitable, bootstrapped data company that has become infrastructure for a niche professional service: the lenders, advisors, and practitioners who need insights on private companies and industries. We’re now positioned to acquire a set of legacy assets in the data, research, and credentialing space around that same profession, and we’re beginning to bring in outside capital to do it. What makes this one different from the usual roll-up thesis: The platform already exists, with seven-figure recurring revenue and partnerships with blue chip information companies. The targets are decades-old, founder-owned businesses with loyal professional customers, and several are already in early conversations with us. We own the data layer the others sit on top of, which is why we’re the natural consolidator.
