Roll-up strategy

Has anyone completed a successful roll-up strategy before?

If so, what are the best industries for a roll-up? Beside being fragmented, what are other industry characteristics you look for? Please let me know.

I have done multiple as an Executive. Yes, understanding market fragmentation is essential; you also need to consider Geography, Scope of offering, Distribution channels, Logistics, etc, to name a few. BUT In the current economic Stage, one of the things you need to look for is Recession resistance.
