Research on search fund industry in Canada

I'm new to the search fund/ lower mid-market PE landscape. I wanted to know more about the field (beyond the basic reading and conferences) before jumping into someting. Would anyone have a report or be willing to share their personal experiences, especially in the Greater Toronto Area?
Is being new to the area a challenge, and are there ways to overcome those challenges?

Have you tried using the Searchfunder resources to identify all of the funds in/around Toronto? There are a handful. I find that most current/former searchers are willing to talk if you ask nicely. Good luck.
