I'd like to develop a better understanding around digital marketing, such that after I acquire a business, I'll be more adept at implementing some digital marketing strategies. Wondering if anybody has recommendations for any books or courses that would be helpful.

Honestly, I would focus on just understanding the basics of conversions and the price of those conversions in different industries. Were all children of the ad age, so we know good ads when we see them. Ads business is constantly changing so you will be hiring someone to do the work. You just want to be able to measure what they are doing. Essentially you need about 700 clicks to get anything statistically relevant. anything less than that is a guess. guesses are fine, but dont spend a lot of money on them. you should be able to validate the conversion quality of a given campaign with less than a 1000 bucks in most industries. Spend 200 then bit more until you see results you want. You can spend up to half your Gross margin on marketing a still make it work, but you will want to find ways to drop that cost over time, leveraging social reach, local ads. again depending on industry dont look over radio and tv as marketing options. find good marketers, with good track record. be prepared to go through a few of them before you find someone thats the right fit. make sure they are very good with measuring and reporting and dont let them hurt your brain with too much info. have probably spent 20M in marketing over time and what i just told you probably cost me a big chunk of it. :). good luck!

^redacted‌ I prepared a spreadsheet 2 years ago of resources to learn Digital Marketing - https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1UApF6ApNySxsYU5Fmyrz7HBBdw7fNKnR2XWkMTnwMEs/edit?usp=sharing

But since, it is slightly old, you might consider new videos from the similar creators or latest courses on Udemy to get basic understanding.

I am into digital marketing space for almost 9 years, first 4.5 years in a job, 2 years as a freelancer and running my agency for over 2 years now. I have well understanding of the space and can help you well if you have clear questions in your head. :)

Feel free to write me an email at redacted if you want a conversation but prefer if you get basic understanding and only ask question that you aren't able to find answer to or really confused in understanding.
