Okay the title is misleading. I'm looking not providing stories. Does anyone have any good QoE stories? Specially stories of buyers in the $500K-$1M SDE range where getting the QoE saved you from making a big mistake. I'm curious if there are any patterns I can learn from.

Most of my buying is distressed, so I rarely get the luxury of a QoE — you take it as-is. That taught me the inverse lesson the hard way: the thing that bites is almost never the headline SDE, it's the working capital sitting underneath it. Stock carried on the balance sheet that isn't actually there at handover, and "normalised" addbacks the seller's accountant was estimating rather than evidencing. On a clean $500K–$1M SDE business I'd point the QoE there first — addback evidence, stock that physically exists, and whether the cash conversion actually matches reported earnings.
