Wondering whether anyone has brought in a management company post close to revamp the business, or hired a very experienced CEO to take the reigns? Interested to hear people's thoughts on this approach and people's experiences if any. Thank you

Thanks ^redacted‌ for the tag. For me, the decision comes down to a few factors: - Do you have previous experience as an Operator and have you managed a P&L and people? If not, should should consider hiring help - What are the goals for the business? If you are looking at the business as an investment that you'll sell in 3-5 years, hiring people who can help catalyze growth & professionalization always helps. When looking for help, try to find people who will roll up their sleeves and actually work with you. Even better if they will work with you in person. It's a material difference than advisors who want to hop on a call once a week because you'll be the sole person responsible for implementing, not the advisors. Implementation and execution is infinitely harder than advice.

Thanks Luke. Good question — I’ve seen both approaches work. For first-time searchers, a lot of the value comes from stepping into the business yourself post-close. You learn the real drivers quickly. Bringing in help usually works better once you know where the real bottlenecks are. I’ve generally seen better results with targeted interim or fractional leaders rather than a full management company. Hiring an experienced CEO can also work, especially if the business is already stable and the focus is on scaling, not fixing. True turnarounds are a different animal and often benefit from seasoned operators with clear authority and incentives. My bias, get in early, learn the business, then add help where it really matters.
