I would generally start with understanding what the brokers have to offer, as it will also give you an idea of what is for sale. Once you get more used to the deals and deal requirements, then you can do your own outreach, which will be more informed now. Showing the potential seller than you know what you're talking about will give much better results

It is a wide net. Depends on sector/industry/size. Cold outreach is not best for all, but some. Mid market is IB/networks, LMM is mix of all 3.
