I’m with a nonprofit and we’ve been approached by another flailing nonprofit that’s looking to be acquired. Are there resources for this to take place in the nonprofit sector? Any references to this being done successfully?

There are. I’ve done pro bono consulting for several Boys and Girls Clubs that wanted to merge in the past. Check out https://www.empowersuccesscorps.org They help in the Boston area for this type of thing.

Mainly M&A happens all the time with Healthcare Non-profits (especially hospital systems), but there is increased talk around non-health care ones merging with each other.

From what I understand, its similar to merging consultancies together, but you also have IRS and donor implications.
