NDT & Precision Machine Shops

I'm currently looking at a company that does NDT (primarily non-O&G infrastructure and aviation) and has a precision machine shop. Anyone have experience with either of these? I am specifically trying to better understand the commercial side: What is required to win new contracts? What are the bid / pricing dynamics?
