Manufacturing Sales Compensation – Looking for Examples
I’m curious what other searchers/owners are doing for sales compensation at their manufacturing businesses.
I’m looking at structuring compensation for a sales staff hire and would love to see some real-world examples of base salary + commission/bonus structures that have worked well.
A few things I’d be particularly interested in:
Base salary range
Commission structure (revenue, gross profit, new business, etc.)
Typical OTE / total compensation
Commission rates or targets
Whether commissions are capped
How you handle existing accounts vs. new business
Any lessons learned or structures you would/wouldn’t use again
The business is a ~20 person B2B manufacturing company with a relatively technical/consultative sales process, so examples from similar companies would be especially helpful.
If anyone is willing to share their structure (even anonymously or in broad terms), I’d really appreciate it. Thanks!
