Hi folks,
Has anyone hired a manager-level employee in a lower paying, English speaking country outside of the US? Right now we use Upwork to hire great international folks at competitive rates to do straightforward tasks, but wondering if anyone has experience hiring a remote, highly qualified manager in another country? Is there an Upwork equivalent for managerial-level talent?
If you have hired, how did you do it and any advice you might give?

1. Start with less responsibilities and work the new team member up to a leadership role. There are often company and regional norms that will take some time to iron out and I prefer to solve those myself with the new recruit versus have that happen further down in the org (with highly variable results).
2. Work with a vendor in the local market to solve for initial recruiting and recruit screening. This may seem counterintuitive due the cost of an intermediary but trying to do it differently without experience is "penny wise and pound foolish" in our experience".
