I have been a searcher for 2 years (HBS, evaluated 200+ companies) pivoting to a roll-up thesis in IT services and managed service providers. I am specifically looking for deals that do NOT fit the traditional search model. Too small. Flat growth. Owner-dependent. Some hair on them. Echoing @redacted‌, the roll up thesis is significantly more involved, especially with the additional criteria you've outlined. That being said, hairy deals is what a whole subsegment of PE lives for, so you can definitely get more upside if you can execute properly. I'm an investor in a couple funds that have backed AI / tech-native PE roll ups, including an MSP play here in the US, so happy to chat on that. Hi @redacted‌, I am an M&A expert in Toronto with significant experience in roll-up strategies and acquisition programs, and in the IT sector as an ex-VC executive. I can tell you from long-time experience that roll-ups are quite different from individual acquisitions. They require strategic planning pre-acquisition, systematic due diligence during acquisitions and - most importantly, because the rubber only burns after it hits the road - rigorous operational integration post-acquisition.
