I'm looking at a $2M manufacturer of a specialty epoxy coating that sells primarily through Home Depot online (not the stores), Lowes online and Amazon. The founder that invented the coating is also the one that figured out how to sell online. I'm trying to understand the potential to expand sales through these channels and market new applications for it into these channels. I would love to talk to anyone who has experience doing something similar.

If this were my deal, here’s what I would prioritize: Sales Performance Across Key Channels: Analyze group sales performance through major retailers—Home Depot, Lowe’s, and Amazon. Is the seller leveraging Amazon Ads? Dive deep into the available data, including keyword volume and campaign performance. Google / Bing Keyword Research: Conduct thorough keyword research via Google Ads to assess trends, volume, and overall market demand. Data-Driven Opportunity Analysis: Use insights from steps 3 and 4 to identify gaps in the market and assess competition. Is the seller utilizing Home Depot or Lowe’s marketplaces? What will it take to build own brand and slowly shift sales to brand website? Alternative Marketplaces: Explore potential growth on other platforms like Walmart and eBay. Alibaba was mentioned, but I have no direct experience with it. Intellectual Property: Confirm whether the product is patented or involves a proprietary formula that differentiates it in the market. International Expansion Potential: Consider the possibility of export and international growth. Having been on the importing side, specifically with waterproofing chemicals from the USA and the Middle East, I know the potential of unique products in markets outside the USA. Good luck with the deal. Execute with precision.

If it were me? I’d go deep on “what weird use cases are already selling that no one’s talking about?” Like… → epoxy for RV owners → epoxy for DIY pool repairs → epoxy for pet-safe garage floors Those hidden applications are gold mines. If people are buying your garage floor epoxy for their pool deck? Make a new listing called: “Pool Deck Epoxy – UV Safe & Anti-Slip Formula (Same Pro Coating Used on Garage Floors)” Amazon’s algorithm loves relevance. So give it relevant niches to chew on. Shoot a simple phone video: “Ever thought of using epoxy for [weird use case]? Here’s how I did it…” Toss that on YouTube, Instagram, TikTok, etc. Google’ll pick it up. Weird use case buyers will feel seen. And your conversions will spike.
