Looking for advice on becoming a capital allocator

I have over 11 years of experience owning and operating businesses successfully. Recently, I’ve decided to shift my focus toward capital allocation — specifically working with investors who acquire and improve businesses.
My goal is to become an operator-investor, focused on acquiring and turning around underperforming companies.
To support this transition, I’m currently dedicating ~40 hours per week to structured study across:
financial statement analysis
business model diagnosis
turnaround strategy
capital allocation
I’m also working through case studies and writing investment memos on struggling businesses to build real-world thinking.
I have two questions for those further along this path:
1. What training programs, resources, or books had the highest impact on your ability to evaluate and improve businesses?
2. For someone coming from an operating background, what are the best ways to gain exposure to real deals or turnaround situations while building this skillset?
Whether that’s through:
working alongside investors
contributing to deal evaluation
or supporting portfolio companies
I’d appreciate any direction on where you’ve seen this transition done well.
