Would love to hear folks' thoughts on the best way to generate business lists, specifically searching by NAICs code and Location?

Further, once you have list in hand, what is best way to ensure that these businesses do not already have institutional (private equity) backing?

I do quite a bit of manual lead generation using various databases. I filter based on a number of parameters, including geo, revenue, years in biz and identification of the CEO/Owner or President. I contact, or attempt to, the decision-maker by phone. There's a little bit of art to this, but I believe there's actually a time-not-wasted payoff. Counterintuitive- I know
