Launching a US‑Based Search Fund as a German Citizen — Anyone Done This?

Hi everyone,
I’m a German citizen currently based in Germany, but I have strong personal and professional ties to the US. I’ve already completed about a year of self‑funded search here in Europe, and now I’m planning to shift my search to the United States by raising a traditional search fund there.
I’m trying to understand how feasible this path is for a non‑US citizen who isn’t currently living in the US. Specifically:
• Has anyone here successfully launched a US‑based search fund as a foreign citizen?
• What should I be aware of in terms of legal structure, visa/immigration, LP expectations, and tax implications?
• Are there investors who are open to backing international searchers targeting US acquisitions?
• Any recommendations on who to talk to — lawyers, fund admins, search fund investors, or other international searchers?
• Anything you wish you had known earlier if you went down a similar path?
I’d really appreciate any insights, introductions, or experiences. Happy to share more context if helpful.
Thanks in advance!
