Keeping Up with the Bookkeepers
redactedI spoke with Jake Demi all about how he started up his bookkeeping company. It was his was an accountant to take a step away from the corporate lifestyle. He is now teaching other accountants how to take the same steps, letting them grow their own businesses without having to listen to corporate middle-managers read over PowerPoint presentations on how to do things. From an M&A standpoint, a good business is hard to spot when it has bad bookkeeping. Besides the obvious financials being in disarray, buyers will start to ask themselves what kept the business from developing good books and good systems around them. With proper bookkeeping, you’ll know where the income is coming from, where the expenses are, and what red flags the business might have. If these red flags are not clearly explained in the books, buyers will be less likely to buy the business. And, if they do, they’ll only make largely discounted offers because they are afraid of the unknown. If you’re a business owner, you need to hire a really good bookkeeper like Jake.
