I am compiling a list of niche online/offline smb businesses and wondering if anyone has or has found something like that online.

If you're just looking for a list of industries and sub-industries, you might want to start with NAICS codes (https://www.naics.com/search/), Alternatively, commercial databases such as D&B Hoovers (http://www.hoovers.com/) will have their own classification systems. After you identify specific industries or sub-industries that you want to explore, it's often useful to utilize sources specific to those industries if you need to get more granular.

That would be a wildly long list. There are an enormous number of industries that make stuff or provide some obscure service etc.

Pull from Edgar database, factset, Bloomberg, CAP IQ, Preqin, or your local chamber of commerce and get to work.
